ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 11, 2022) – Flower City Union is excited to play in the next round of the U.S. Open Cup against D.C. United, one of Major League Soccer’s most successful clubs. Flower City Union advances to the third round of the Open Cup after defeating the Western Mass Pioneers early last week in the club’s first historic victory.

The third round match will be played at the Rochester Community Sports Complex downtown soccer stadium on Tuesday April 19 at 7 PM. Fans can find ticket information at the club’s official website. Parking is FREE for all Flower City Union matches, plus all supporters who purchase tickets in advance can receive a $5 discount by using PROMO code USOpencup at checkout (valid advance purchase until 4pm matchday, excludes suites).

The U.S. Open Cup is one the oldest cup competitions in the United States, dating back to 1914. The tournament allows for soccer clubs at all levels, from amateur to lower division professional the opportunity to compete at the highest professional level for this prestigious title.

Rochester, New York once dubbed “Soccer Town USA” is forever connected to the history of this tournament as the Rochester Raging Rhinos (now RNY FC) is the only non-Major League Soccer club to win this tournament.

While Flower City Union will be the underdogs heading into this contest, the club’s head coach Zach Agliata remains confident in the club’s chances. “We feel honored and privileged to be hosting such an iconic club as D.C. United. Although there is a natural level of respect for D.C. United, we prepare for every club we face with the goal of winning the match. This contest will be no different for us.”
